My webmaster managed to link twitter to my blog. Live updates from k2 soon on http://www.firstbelgianonk2.be !
92 kgs or a BMI of 27,5. Lots of caleries to keep me warm on K2. Too bad I have to carry them up myself.
I am finally making the last arrangements for the K2 trip. I still need to get through a lot of little things so the next two weeks will still be very busy, but a lot of stuff has been sorted out as well. I have shipped 65 kg of climbing gear to Islamabad, I have picked my visa for Pakistan and I have bought a Thuraya satellite phone. There are still a few things I need to buy such as some extra carabiners, a spare rope and a second jumar. Oh, and high altitude food. In the previous expeditions, the food that you eat above basecamp was always included but this time we need to bring that ourselves. The advantage is that you can then also choose what you eat.
Training is going well too. I’ve had some problems with my elbow in the last couple of weeks. Apparently, a couple of pieces of bone broke off and are stuck in my elbow. Because of this, I can’t stretch my left arm 100 %. I can still do everything like pull myself up or push heavy weigths. But it was irritating me and it could get worse on the mountain. The doctors checked it out and they all came to the conclusion that I should climb first. The elbow can be fixed when I come back from K2. On Monday, the doctor gave a shot of Kortizone in the elbow and that has temporarily fixed the problem. Because of these problems with my elbow, I’ve had to scale back my training program considerably. But I’ve picked it up again since last weekend. And today, I set a personal record in my endurance training: I climbed 285 floors on a step in 60 minutes at a heart rate of 146 beats per minute. Looks like I will be in top shape just in time for the K2 expedition.
Last week I also recorded a few interviews for Radio stations in Belgium. They will be broadcasted next week. And on Tuesday, I’m expected in the town hall of Antwerp. The mayor will formally kick off the expedition then. I still have to work until the 8th June, but I guess that’s OK !

Finally completed the english website today. Check it out at http://www.firstbelgianonk2.be !
Cancelled my training with my personal trainer to give my elbow a rest. Cardio training instead this evening.
Another interval training yesterday. Not as good as I’m used to but considering I haven’t been training for 3 weeks still acceptable.
I gave my last lecture before K2 yesterday. More then 100 people attended. Good way to finish off the preparations for the expedition.
I’ve recovered well from the training on thursday. I will gradually increase the intensity of my training again this week.
